Rachid Koraïchi is an Algerian sculptor, printer, calligrapher and ceramicist. He completed his studies in calligraphy in Algeria, then studied in France. His work has been widely exhibited around the world, including at the Venice International Biennial, the MoMA Museum, the National Museum of African Art, and Washington, DC. His curious fascination with Chinese calligraphy has led him to establish a dialogue between distinct forms of writing that have different roots, and in the process has also introduced illustration. But his work is not real Chinese calligraphy; It is more a pretense and an imitation of the practice of conceptualization. To understand the value of direction in these engravings, we must know that the Quraysh are left-handed and work with the Arabic alphabet (from right to left) on the one hand, and with Chinese semantics on the other. In Qurayshi's works, one can also see some architectural motifs that are reminiscent of mosques, domes and religious places, but such a reminder disappears immediately in the face of moving reliefs. The power of these engravings lies in the fact that they make the engraver stand out. In his works, we see the assembly of imaginative forms that can be very attractive.
